Chioma Nnadi was the previous editor of Vogue’s US website. Nnadi began working for Vogue in 2010. Ten years later, in 2020, she was appointed editor of Vogue.

Her current work for the website includes: “Timothée Chalamet on French-guy hair, filming with Scorsese, and being the new face of Bleu de Chanel,” “The 66 best Met Gala dress-code rejectors of all time,” “The story behind Beyoncé’s three epic Dubai performance looks,” and many others.

Nnadi’s strong voice, unique background, and ability to see the shift within the fashion world before most others set her apart from her predecessor. “She will also become the first Black woman to edit the storied fashion magazine,” states editor Betsy Reed for The Guardian US.

Though the new head of editorial content feels she has big shoes to fill as Edward Enninful leaves the position, Nnadi plans to focus more on “digital storytelling” and “interactive” features meant to engage with the readers. For Nnadi, this is an excellent focal point, considering her prior position as editor for Vogue.com.

“When I started at Vogue, it was about having the latest new thing,” Nnadi tells The Guardian. “Now, there’s a sense of archival fashion being just as important. I grew up going to Portobello Road every single weekend, looking for vintage clothing. That was before it was super cool to do it,” she continues.

Nnadi’s background may be more editorial than Enninful’s style-focused experience. However, her awareness of the direction of growth in the fashion industry’s digital era, encompassed by her agenda to continue embracing diversity within Vogue, suggests she is more than capable of carrying out the position. The Guardian quotes Nnadi: “the impulse is the same, regardless of whether you style or write. Edward had that instinct, even though his background is different to mine. But the question will always be, how do we capture the zeitgeist. It’s important to think about who is telling the story and whose story we are telling.”

Nnadi will begin her new role as head of editorial content on October 9 in London. The fashion industry eagerly anticipates what her contribution to British Vogue will entail.
