Word of Phoebe Philo’s expectations to start her label began in June 2021. The news spread faster than gossip at coffee hour after a Sunday service. Philophiles everywhere began anxiously awaiting what the mystifying designer had in store for her namesake brand.

Philo’s designs brought astute awareness to the working woman’s daily routine. “Phoebe Philo’s work at Céline redefined what women aspire to wear, with her minimalist aesthetic, clean lines, and tonal colour palette gaining traction with critics and consumers alike,” states David Simes from BOF. Though every piece she designed was functional for the workplace, her designs never lacked the alluring mystique that her audience became addicted to.

Philo’s four years absence from the fashion world left many longing for more. Her designs, even the “old” ones, were immensely sought after in the second-hand markets. For example, Philo used her time at Chloe as creative director to create feminine yet minimalist designs. “Under Philo’s leadership, Chloé became one of Paris Fashion Week’s most coveted invites, and the brand was a commercial success thanks to Philo’s effortless, feminine creations and profitable “It” bag designs, such as the Paddington, which launched in 2005,” states Sims.

Models in Philos runway shows wore color-blocked turtlenecks with their hair still tucked in, clutches held tightly to their chest, sneakers with skirts, and Birkenstocks. All indicators of a woman on the go, but in the most fashionable way. “Philo created an aesthetic that was both cool and measured,” stated Joanna Nikas from The Cut

Philo’s new line will be available on October 30 on her online store. Sign up to receive notifications on the brand’s official website.
