Gaga paused during an emotional performance of the song and shared, “I just want to remind everyone here what a resilient wonderful city this is.” With deep emotion, she added, “I want to dedicate this song to everyone we lost.” On October 1, 2017, a devastating event happened as Professional gambler Steven Paddock shot a hail of bullets at the crowd at the Harvest 91 country music festival from his Mandalay Bay room, leaving 59 people dead and over 500 injured. It remains a haunting memory, marking the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
During her Jazz and Piano residency in Las Vegas, Lady Gaga took a moment to honor her dear friend and collaborator, the legendary Tony Bennett, who passed away on July 21. Gaga sang “Fly Me to the Moon (In Other Words),” with heartfelt emotion, she shared how deeply she misses him and how his memory resonates every single day.
Gaga, who had the privilege of working closely with him on the enchanting 2014 release “Cheek to Cheek” and the 2021 album “Love For Sale,” reminisced about Bennett’s artistry. “I’m sure you know he was a wonderful, amazing performer. He played jazz for as long as he could, he was singing a week before he passed away,” she expressed. Gaga continued to add, “He was just the most optimistic person. He could always find the good in everything.”
Gaga shared a wholesome memory with Tony Bennett, stating, “He told me when he was a kid, ‘My family didn’t have enough money for the holidays.’ He entered a raffle and he won a turkey. He was so happy, he brought the turkey home for his family.” Gaga continued, “That’s Tony.”
Gaga’s spectacular 12-date summer/fall residency will finish on October 5. This show features iconic songs from the Great American songbook like “Luck Be a Lady,” “Mambo Italiano,” “La Vie En Rose,” and “Fly Me to the Moon,” blended with jazzed-up versions of her hits, “Bad Romance,” “Paparazzi,” “Born This Way,” and “Stupid Love.”
