Barker grew up in the music industry and often accompanied his dad on tour. The young artist now also spends most of his days in the studio. “I’m always in the studio,” Barker commented “I kind of go in there without direction.”
In his recent works, Barker gives a more personal look into his life. In his hit single, “Friends With Your Ex,” the singer shared his relationship with TikTok star, Charlie D’Amelio.
Barker had to work hard for his dreams; he felt like he needed to prove himself. My dad would be like, ‘Show me that you want to sign,'” said the singer, who has recently signed to his father’s record label, DTA Records. “It wasn’t as being like, ‘Sign me.’ I feel like I had to prove myself to get the opportunity to sign to them,” Barker explained.
Last June, Barker was invited to perform on stage with Machine Gun Kelly’s sold-out show at Madison Square Garden in New York. The performance happened only hours after Barker had found out his dad had been hospitalized for pancreatitis in Los Angeles.
“It was honestly so awful. It made me never want to go back to New York because of how I felt at the time. It was pretty tough,” stated Barker, who was able to push through his performance because he knew it was what his dad would’ve wanted.
During this time, Barker was dealing with a lot of hardships of his own. The singer was struggling with alcohol abuse and had frequent hospital visits that year due to a concussion.
While still drinking in moderation, Barker is aware of his issue and is careful to not let himself get back to that place. “I always tell myself, ‘I’ll only drink on special occasions now.’ I just steer away from everything,” he expressed.
