Sofía Vergara Embodies the Ruthless Charm of ‘The Godmother’ in Trailer for Netflix’s New Series Griselda
Netflix’s newest series, starring Sofía Vergara has officially dropped its trailer.
In the 1970s and 1980s Miami, Griselda Blanco, nicknamed “The Godmother,” built one of the most profitable cartels in history. The Netflix series Griselda will look into Blanco’s life and how her blend of ruthlessness, and charm made her navigate business and family.

In the trailer, Vergara stars as Griselda Blanco, portraying the strong character of “La Jefa” (The Boss) to the core. The Modern Family star is also an executive producer on the Netflix series.
Vergara stated in the official press release, “As a cartel leader and a fearless businesswoman in Miami in the ‘70s, and of course, as a woman, as a mother. That was not a very usual mix… I really wanted to explore that from the point of view of her being one of the only women in history to have gone as far as she did.”
The drama series was created by the NARCOS and NARCOS: MEXICO, showrunner Eric Newman. Newman who worked alongside NARCOS director Andrés Baiz, to direct all six episodes of Griselda. The series was co-created by Doug Miro, Ingrid Escajeda, and Carlo Bernard. Newman, Miro, Escajeda, and Bernard, alongside Sofía Vergara and Luis Balaguerand, executively produced Griselda with The Latin World Entertainment.
When asked in the press release about how the NARCOS team was the right one to collaborate on Griselda, Vergara commented, “It made absolute sense to join forces with the team behind NARCOS because of their ability to find the humanity within a complicated subject. They really understand this world and its history, and audiences respond to and trust their vision.”
In addition to Alberto Guerra (Dario Sepúlveda), Christian Tappan (Arturo Mesa), Martín Rodríguez (Rivi Ayala), Vanessa Ferlito (Carmen Gutiérrez) AKA Karol G, will be joining the series. Additionally, the season will feature many guest stars.
Vergara steps into Griselda’s role completely, through the use of makeup, prosthetics, hair, and costumes. She is nearly unrecognisable in her new look for the film. Furthermore, the character of the queenpin is also a stark contrast to the bubbly Gloria of the Modern Family.
Griselda is set to be released on January 25, 2024, on Netflix.
