Shannen Doherty and Holly Marie Combs unpacked Charmed drama regarding Alyssa Milano on the actresses’ latest podcast episode.

According to Combs, Alyssa Milano wasn’t the biggest fan of her co-star Shannen Doherty when they starred alongside each other on the 2018 TV series Charmed. After a rift between the two actresses, Milano allegedly posed an ultimatum to get Doherty off the show.

Fellow co-star Combs recalled a meeting she had with Charmed‘s producer in the early 2000s, where she inquired why Doherty would no longer appear as Prue Halliwell on the show. “He said, ‘We didn’t mean to — but we’ve been backed into this corner — we’re basically in this position where it’s one or the other,” Combs disclosed on a December 18 episode of the Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty podcast.

“We were told [by Alyssa] it’s her or [Shannen] and Alyssa has threatened to sue us for a hostile workplace environment,” she continued.

As an observer, Combs expressed that she was as surprised by the drama as anyone. She couldn’t recall any “harsh words” or “brawls” happening between the two actresses in front of the crew. She acknowledged that the tension between Milano and Doherty occurred mostly behind the scenes.

Doherty herself also found it difficult to recall any examples of bad behavior on set. “I lived a year after that sort of replaying everything in my brain and really trying to find those moments,” Doherty explained. “I don’t ever remember being mean to her [Alyssa] on set.”

Doherty felt she had been nothing but professional towards Milano during her three-episode run on Charmed before leaving in 2001.

At the time of Doherty’s departure from the show, the actress alluded to the two’s rifts as the reason for her departure. “There was too much drama on the set and not enough passion for the work,” she shared back in 2001. “I’m 30 years old and I don’t have time for drama in my life anymore.”

As for Milano’s side of the story, she noted that she and her co-star had their differences on the show. “I think it’s hard when you put two very different people together,” Milano told Entertainment Weekly after Doherty left the show.

“I’m very laid-back and passive. I have my Buddha. I come in here and meditate. [Shannen’s] got a lot of energy, she’s very headstrong, she wants to get the job done.”

However, despite their “rough” moments, Milano shared on a talk show in 2013 that she was unaware of what led to her co-star’s departure.

“I don’t know if she got fired,” she explained. “We never really found out what happened.”
