Campbell was not a part of the sixth film, and there weren’t any plans for her to appear in the upcoming seventh either. The Scream franchise is considered one of the best in horror history, and with the sixth installment opening with the series’ best opening box office weekend, it is still running strong.
Campbell appeared in a reduced role in the fifth film, likely to introduce the new characters, but contract negotiations made her drop out of the franchise. However, the Three To Tango actress was dissatisfied with the salary offered to her, and the collective parties could not agree on a fair deal.
“The offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.” Campbell expressed this in June 2022, when she announced she would not return.

The production for Scream 7, which is expected to release sometime in late 2024 or early 2025, is in the midst of background drama. The co-stars of the previous two films, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, will not return. Ortega will not return due to scheduling conflicts, as she will shoot the second season of the hit Netflix series, Wednesday. Barrera is not coming back for more complicated reasons. It is reported she was fired by the studio for what they believed was “hate speech” after speaking about the Israel-Palestine conflict on her social media.
With the film unsteady, the creators could pivot back to the original Scream Queen herself. “I love this franchise,” voiced Campbell. “I would hope it doesn’t fall apart. We’ll see.”
Scream 7 will also change directors, as Christopher Landon, known for the Happy Death Day films and Freaky, will step in for Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpen. “I would not be surprised to get a call,” uttered Campbell.
