Film Star to Be Star-Crossed: Tom Holland Announces New Role
Tom Holland has just announced his new role as Romeo Montague, leaping from Spiderman to Shakespeare in a West End revival of Romeo & Juliet.
On Instagram, the star posted a picture of himself in red with a black background and information about the upcoming production. This will be Holland’s first acting project since he announced a mental health break after filming the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room.
The post also included a video with glitching graphics every few seconds, which included the words “violent delights have violent ends,” a line from the famous tragedy. Holland used the caption “Sign up now. Link in bio.”
However, this will not be his onstage debut, as the Uncharted star first performed in Billy Elliot: The Musical at only age 12. This rendition of Romeo and Juliet will be directed by Jamie Lloyd, who has directed other famous projects like A Doll’s House with Jessica Chastain. The production was up for several Tony Awards during its Broadway run.

Lloyd looks forward to working with the Marvel actor, mentioning that Holland “is one of the greatest, most exciting young actors in the world,” “It is an honor to welcome him back to the West End.” he added.
It has not been announced who will portray Holland’s onstage lover, Juliet Capulet. However, people are looking forward to the release of the full cast list. The play will have a limited run for 12 weeks starting this May at London’s Duke of York’s Theatre on the West End.
Ticket sales go live on the show’s website on Tuesday, February 13- just in time for Valentine’s Day.
