On February 7, Disney and Pixar posted on social media revealing release dates for the upcoming animated sequels of multiple well-loved films, including Zootopia 2, Toy Story 5, Moana 2, Frozen 3, and Inside Out 2.

Disney’s official Instagram account posted quite a surprise on Wednesday, revealing a first-look photo of Moana 2 and announcing that it will be released in theaters this November, which came completely unexpected to fans.

The post included a photo of Moana and Maui on a ship in the ocean with a gorgeous glowing sea creature in the water. The fans cannot contain their excitement and are already theorizing with one another on social media about what the photo means if someone is going to turn into a sea creature, what type of adventures they are on this time and more.

The account also surprised fans with a short video and a ten-second-long trailer, with the caption revealing the exact release date to be November 27, 2024, teasing a sneak peek of what we will be seeing later this year.

On Thursday, February 8, Disney decided to shock fans with yet another announcement, announcing the release date of another sequel, which is a fan favorite, Inside Out 2, with a release date of June 14, 2024. The trailer gives us a sneak peek at the upcoming film, showing us the characters we’ve missed and can look forward to seeing on our screens again. In the caption, Pixar mentions that the sequel will introduce whole new emotions and characters that weren’t in the first film, which is something fans can look forward to until the summer.

Not only are these sequels set to hit the screen, but three more announcements soon came in that don’t have as early a release date but are still stirring up emotions in fans across the world. The three other projects listed to return as sequels are Zootopia 2 (November 2025), Toy Story 5 (2026), and Frozen 3 (2026). So, we have to wait a couple of years for some of them, but if you have watched the first films, you know that the wait is worth it.

Most of these announcements came as a shock to most people because it seemed like Disney completely surprised them by launching all the announcements at once, not even knowing these films were getting another sequel. Many fans and celebrities took to social media to share their excitement over the news.

In the comment section on Disney’s post with the new Moana teaser trailer, actress Auliʻi Cravalho, who voices Moana, also commented on each of the Moana Instagram posts. She should be returning to her role alongside Dwayne Johnson, who portrays Maui.

It’s safe to say that Disney is being met with mostly positive support and excitement over their new announcements. Although audiences may have to wait a little longer than hoped for some of the productions, the time will fly by when they can strap themselves in for the ride and into those leather movie theater seats very soon. For now, all five of the original movies are available to stream on Disney+.
