Actress and musician Bridgit Mendler is taking on two new challenges this year: reshaping satellite data distribution and motherhood.

With a stellar career in acting and singing, starring in Disney Channel hits like Good Luck Charlie and Wizards of Waverly Place, Mendler also pursued academic excellence at MIT and Harvard Law School.

Inspired by her upbringing in an “engineering household” and her experience at the Federal Communications Commission’s Space Bureau, Mendler is spearheading Northwood Space in El Segundo, California.

This company focuses on mass-producing ground stations, critical for satellite communication, backed by $6 million in funding from investors like Founders Fund and Andreessen Horowitz.

Teaming up with her husband, Griffin Cleverly, and Shaurya Luthra, both seasoned experts from Lockheed Martin, Mendler named the venture after a New Hampshire lake where she conceived the idea during the pandemic.

Northwood’s primary goal is to engineer ground stations swiftly, delivering them within days to satellite operators. Initially targeting low Earth orbit satellites, the startup aims to provide a seamless experience akin to renting server capacity from cloud giants like Amazon Web Services.

Scheduled to conduct its inaugural spacecraft test later this year, Northwood advances its mission to revolutionize satellite data transmission.

Additionally, in a heartwarming announcement on X, Mendler shared her adoption of a four-year-old boy, which received a flood of congratulations from fans.

Mendler’s journey with Northwood, her recent adoption, and her long-standing acting and music career reveal her multifaceted nature.
