America Ferrera to Star in New Film The Lost Bus
America Ferrera and Matthew McConaughey have been announced to star in the upcoming drama, The Lost Bus.
After the incredible success with the Barbie film, America Ferrera announces her next project. Ferarra is best known for her roles as Betty in the award-winning series Ugly Betty and as Carmen in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Although nothing can ever top her powerful monologue in Barbie, this film goes another route. The Lost Bus is unlike her last role, taking on a more serious genre.
Matthew McConaughey, who will be working alongside her, has almost every genre in the book under his sleeve. Some of these roles include the lead role in Interstellar, a sci-fi action film, to his popular romantic comedies like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Dazed and Confused.
Ferrera stars as Mary Ludwig, a teacher, and McConaughey will portray Kevin McCay, a bus driver. The characters will team up as they lead their school bus of students out of the wildfire to safety.
The film is based on a book by author Lizzie Johnson, titled Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire. Johnson wrote it after the devastating California wildfires that caused over 100 deaths and destroyed the town, marked as the deadliest wildfires in the history of the state of California.
The Lost Bus will be directed by Academy Award Nominee Paul Greengrass. Greengrass is known for directing three out of the five films in the Bourne franchise and has also been recognized for his talent in directing. Moreover, the film will be produced, developed, and distributed by Apple Original Films. It will also be produced by Comet Pictures owned by Jamie Lee Curtis, Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions, and Greg Goodman.

In addition, Brad Inglesby, known for writing the American crime drama limited series Mare of Easttown, which got multiple nominations and awards including a Golden Globe Award and many Emmy Awards in different departments, is confirmed to be writing this project. Furthermore, author Lizzie Johnson will serve as executive producer.
Production is confirmed to start filming this spring, and we should get more news on release dates once filming begins. While you wait for more announcements, you can buy Lizzie Johnson’s book to become familiar with the story, available for purchase on Amazon here.
