A New A24 Film is Coming with an Impressive Cast
On Tuesday, A24 announced the news of the upcoming Western film Eddington, revealing an impressive cast lineup that will get fans talking.
Ari Aster’s, Eddington, will star an incredibly exciting mix of actors from Hollywood’s biggest films, including Emma Stone, Pedro Pascal, Austin Butler, Joaquin Phoenix, Luke Grimes, and more.
The official A24 account tweeted a photo of a film slate lying in a desert on Twitter. It includes the director’s name, who was announced to be Aster, and the cameraman and Academy Award-winning cinematographer, Darius Khondji (Uncut Gems). The caption also suggests the film will be a contemporary Western, hence the photo’s background.

Major plot details are still under wraps, and so far, we only know that it has been discussed as a Western that follows a small-town sheriff in New Mexico. However, Aster’s previous work shows that he is best known for directing horror films like Hereditary (2018) and Midsommar (2019), two of the most chilling pictures of the last decade. Aster has written the script, leaving us wondering if it may also be in the horror genre. He will produce the film with Lars Knudsen under their Square Peg banner, who also produced Midsommar and Hereditary.
A post about the film circulating on Twitter from Production Weekly includes a more detailed plot. However, it was from a month ago, so it needs to be updated. The post says the film occurs during the pandemic and is “described as a noir dark comedy ensemble set in a fictional copper mining town in New Mexico.”

The cast is already exciting people due to their previous work. The first to be announced is Stone, who won her second Academy Award at the Oscars this weekend as Best Actress in her Poor Things (2023) lead role. She won her first Oscar in 2017 and was named Best Actress in La La Land (2016). Stone has also won two Golden Globes, one for each of those films. As one of this generation’s most talented actors, she can be seen in many other favorite pictures, including Cruella (2021), The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), and Easy A (2010).

Next is Pascal, most known for his lead roles in The Last of Us as Joel, the Mandalorian in The Mandalorian, and Javier in Narcos. He can also be seen in many other iconic roles, such as his time in Game of Thrones, Wonder Woman 1984, and so many more. He has been in the production of multiple films over the past couple of years, including Gladiator 2, which will be released in November, and Fantastic Four, which will be released in 2025.

Phoenix and Butler are also set to join the cast and have many notable roles. Phoenix portrays the Joker in Joker (2019), Commodus in Gladiator (2000), and Garry in Parenthood (1989). In 2019, he won an Academy Award for Best Actor in Joker and two Golden Globes for his roles in Joker and Walk the Line. Butler is best known as Elvis in Elvis (2022) and Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in the newest Dune film. All actors execute a huge range of acting perfectly each time. So, whatever genre this ends up in, the cast will be phenomenal.

Production is set to kick off this week. The film has no release date yet, but it is anticipated to be released in theatres like Aster’s other films rather than a streaming service.
You can watch Aster’s most recent work in the 2023 horror film Beau is Afraid, available to stream on HBO Max.
