Coco Jones Gives Insight on New Album and Her Goals
Coco Jones recently discussed her plans for her career and life in an interview with Nylon. The 24-year-old expressed that she is working hard to give her fans Coco Jones before she shifts her attention elsewhere.
The singer stated, “I know [what] I have to accomplish careerwise so I can be satisfied with the version of Coco that just had to do Coco.”
Jones explained she wants to give her fans a look at her authentic self through music before she gets wrapped up in family life. “So by the time I get there, I’ll need whatever I did in my ‘only about me’ stage to really carry over so I can be an individual, but I don’t have to grind it out with no end in sight,” she stated.
The multitalented singer got her start on Disney Channel and rose to prominence in the 2012 film, Let It Shine. Jones’ experience in the industry was quite negative as she was often overlooked and mishandled. In 2014, she was dropped from Disney-owned studio, Hollywood Records, forcing her to start over.
Her negative experience did little to stop her progress as she signed to Def Jam in 2022 and shortly after released her debut EP What I Didn’t Tell You. The project included “Caliber, “Double Back,” and one of her most viral songs “ICU.”
Although her debut EP awarded her 5 Grammy nominations and a Grammy award, Jones admitted that the version of herself that created “What I Didn’t Tell You” was unsure. However, this time the “Crazy For Me” singer is more self-assured. “So much has changed in my personal life and in my work dynamic with people that I’m like, ‘Okay, I’ve got to know.’ Because if not me, then who’s going to tell me who I’m supposed to be?” the singer stated. “It has to come from me because I’m the only consistent thing here.”
Following her Grammy win for “ICU,” she is more motivated to keep breaking barriers and leveling up in her career. She is exploring different sounds and melodies as well as aiming for duality and balance in life. Jones also expressed that her goal is to release her new album by the end of the summer and with it, she will also be able to share “a new version of me that’s very decisive, very opinionated, and very, very choosy.”
We wish her the best and look forward to listening to her future projects. You can stream Coco Jones’ EP on all platforms.
