Tyla recently discussed canceling all her upcoming live performances, including performing at Coachella, which was a significant goal for her.

“It’s difficult because I want to go. It’s the moment that I’ve been waiting for…It’s not an easy decision, but it’s the right decision,” the “Truth or Dare” singer explained to Billboard about her Coachella performance.

The 22-year-old singer first became a viral sensation with her song “Water” and since then has won a Grammy for the popular song. Following her recent success Tyla had been preparing for her first world tour until an undisclosed injury stood in the way.

On March 7, Tyla revealed via Instagram that she was canceling her North American and European tour dates and live performances at multiple festivals. In her post, she stated, “As much as this is something I would rather have dealt with privately, it’s important that I share what I have to share with you today. For the past year, I’ve been silently suffering with an injury that has tragically worsened. I’ve seen doctors and specialists with high hopes, but the pain has only become more agonizing as has the severity of the situation.”

Her post continued, “I am absolutely heartbroken to have to say this but as of right now I won’t be able to proceed with the tour. In consulting with medical professionals, it’s become increasingly clear that continuing any festival or tour dates would jeopardize my long-term health and safety.”

A couple weeks after canceling her performances, Tyla released her self-titled debut album, featuring artists including Tems, Becky G, and Gunna. For her album, the South African singer wanted to show the world a different side of her than they are used to. She expressed that she wanted her vocals to take center stage rather than her dancing this time, stating, “I’m really confident in what I’ve created. Now’s a time where I can showcase a performance style where I’m not really dancing as much. Maybe I strip back a little bit more and I’m just serving vocals. But there’s no way to stop me. I’m always going to find a way.”

We wish Tyla a safe and speedy recovery as she deals with her health issues, and you can stream her music on all platforms.
