Actress Maude Apatow revealed the launch of her new production company Jewelbox Pictures’ alongside producer Olivia Rosenbloom.

Apatow and Rosenbloom have partnered to create the production company, Jewelbox Pictures. Their goal is to create a company that focuses on bold and complex human stories. The business already has 3 films in development. Apatow is set to make her directorial debut for the first one on the list, Poetic License.

Poetic License will be centered around two best friends, Sam and Ari who are in a college poetry workshop. The friends will be fighting for the affection of a middle-aged mom named Liz who is their writing teacher. While the plot details are still unknown, there is a good chance that it will be a comedy considering the comedic background that Apatow’s parents, Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann have.

The film was written by Raffi Donatich, whom Apatow describes in an interview with Deadline as having a “grounded writing style,” and writes characters and dialogue “with so much love, depth, and humor.” Apatow praises Donatich’s storytelling and talks about the film, stating “It’s a coming-of-age story for all ages. I think this movie is universal, timeless, and has the potential to be something very special. I couldn’t be more excited to bring it to life.”

Producers include Apatow, Josh Church, Rosenbloom, and Harrison Kreiss from Jewelbox Pictures and Apatow Productions.

Apatow is known for her role as Lexi Howard in the Emmy Award-winning HBO drama series Euphoria. She has also starred in multiple iconic comedy films with her family including This Is 40, The King of Staten Island, Knocked Up, and Funny People. Theatre is also an area that the actress excels in. Last year she performed in Off-Broadway’s Little Shop of Horrors as the lead, Audrey.

Additionally, Rosenbloom has experience in the industry. She co-produced the Peacock documentary, Stormy. She also co-produced a documentary about the friendship of two comedians, Bob Newhart and Don Rickles, called Bob and Don: A Love Story.

The best friends have been working together since high school, both being drawn together due to their love of comedy, writing characters, and creating real and original stories. They previously worked together on a short film in 2017 called Don’t Mind Alice, which they co-directed.

Not only is Poetic License coming, but two additional films are in the works. The first film is How to Murder Your Life, written and executive produced by Cat Marnell. It will be a dark comedy that follows a memoir of drug addiction and self-sabotage in a world of glamour, fashion magazines, and nightclubs.

The last film is Female Friendships, which Apatow is in talks to star in. Emily Rappaport will write and direct, partnering with producers Michael P. Cohen and Lena Dunham’s new production company, Good Thing Going. This story will follow two lifelong best friends. One of them is going through a female-to-male gender transition.

Fans are very excited to see the women creating their own company, and cannot wait to see the films once they are released.
