Miranda Cosgrove and Brooke Shields Star in New Netflix Film

Miranda Cosgrove and Brooke Shields portray a mother and daughter in the upcoming film Mother of the Bride, which will be released on Netflix on May 9.

The romantic comedy follows a woman named Emma (Cosgrove) who gets engaged on a trip to London. She returns home to reveal the unexpected news to her mother, Lana (Shields), that she will attend the alter next month. 

Netflix released the official two-minute trailer for the film, giving viewers a glimpse at what to expect from the storyline.

Lana finds out that her daughter is marrying the son of her ex who broke her heart years ago in college. The bride and groom’s parents try to navigate their past feelings for each other while trying to make the wedding as special as possible, without letting them get in the way of the big day.

Mother of the Bride will feature an exciting cast in addition to the iCarly star and former supermodel, including Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill), Rachael Harris (Lucifer), Benjamin Bratt (Poker Face), Sean Teale (Rosaline), Wilson Cruz (My So-Called Life), and more. Teale will portray RJ, the man Emma is engaged to, and Bratt will portray Will, Lana’s past boyfriend.

Shields shared some photos from the film on X that are stills from the trailer, which gives a glimpse of some of the scenes that will occur. Including Lana accidentally hitting her ex with a ball during tennis, her on a date with the doctor who stepped in to help him, her and her daughter happily arriving at the resort, and a tease at her former romantic relationship possibly reblossoming.

The rom-com already looks like it will become a summer staple film, and a tropical wedding with more than one romantic plot is sure to be a fun watch. 

The film was directed by Mark Waters, who is known for iconic films like Mean Girls, He’s All That, and Freaky Friday. The script was written by Robin Bernheim, who wrote The Princess Switch trilogy featuring Vanessa Hudgens. Brad Krevoy is a producer known for producing films like Dumb and Dumber and A Christmas Prince. Waters and heartthrob Murray will be reuniting after previously working together on Freaky Friday two decades ago. 

With their creative minds coming together to create this film, and based on their successful past experiences, this should be a good one. 

Netflix released an official poster for the upcoming film, featuring the cast in their wedding attire on the tropical beaches of Thailand. 

Mother of the Bride will be released on Netflix on May 9, just in time for the summer season.
