Prom Dates New Official Trailer Release
As prom season approaches, Hulu reveals the official trailer for its original comedy film, Prom Dates, starring Antonia Gentry and Julia Lester.
Directed by Kim O. Nguyen and written by D.J. Mausner, Prom Dates is a coming-of-age film releasing May 3. It follows two best friends, Hannah (Lester) and Jess (Gentry), who made a prom pact when they were 13. Vowing to have a “perfect senior prom,” things go south when the two break up with their dates. Now, on a 24-hour time crunch, Hannah and Jess are on a mission to find new prom dates and fulfill their middle school fantasies.
Hulu premiered the film’s trailer on April 25 through social media, presenting a sneak peek of both characters’ storylines.
After dumping her cheating boyfriend, Jess is eager to find a date, stating, “Do you know how much of my college fund I spent on two dresses, lashes, shoes? I got a Brazillian Hannah. I don’t even know what that is.” In addition, she is the first to mention the prom pact, “We promised that no matter what, this would be our night.”
Hannah, who broke up with her boyfriend after realizing she is gay, is not too thrilled about attending prom. In contrast to Jess, she views their situation as “the perfect excuse not to go.” However, Jess convinces her to follow through with the pact, pushing Hannah to explore a new queer dating pool. Consequently, in the mix strikes a potential romantic interest, Angie Adams (Terry Hu), a cool musician she admires.
Although the two friends face this journey head-on, it goes differently than planned. There are many twists and turns throughout the night as they rush to find dates. The duo even go as far as to scout some at college parties.
Moreover, the trailer successfully showcases the film’s humor from beginning to end. The line delivery, as well as the series of unfortunate events, are sure to take the audience on a rollercoaster.
