Childish Gambino Announces Reimagined Album With New Tour Dates

Jeff Neira/CBS

Childish Gambino has released ATAVISTA, a reimagined version of his album, 3.15.2020 which was released over four years ago.

The rapper took to Instagram to share new details about the future rollout of his final albums and a world tour this summer. The tour will feature special guests WILLOW and Amaarae.

Donald Glover is the mastermind behind the musical identity of Childish Gambino. When Glover is not acting, producing, or writing for upcoming projects, you can catch him in the studio creating tunes under the stage name.

The rapper first made a surprise appearance during Tyler, the Creator’s headlining Coachella set back in April. Glover casually walked onto the main stage as fans in the crowd went wild. However, this time around may be his final appearance as “Childish Gambino,” revealing his final album is coming sooner than you think.

Gambino utilized his platform, Gilga to announce the re-imagined album. Gilga is a curated library and radio show for fans to listen to the latest news surrounding the future of the actor and musician.

His album 3.15.2020 quietly dropped in March 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic quickly approached. Now, he has re-released the album under its original title ATAVISTA. This version features fleshed-out visuals to accompany a several-year-long process. Additionally, Gambino added a few new guests on the album such as Young Nudy. He also added actual song titles for each track.

At the time of release, Gambino had just lost his father and welcomed his son, all while America was being hit with the pandemic. The “Redbone” singer stated, “But we put it out quickly, I didn’t master or mix it, I just put it out. I was going through a lot.”

Gambino is already in the final stages of his project rollout before he says goodbye to his musical and stage persona. The musician added, “But then after that, there’s a Childish Gambino album, the final Childish Gambino album.”

The final Gambino album will be a soundtrack to his upcoming film Bando Stone & The New World, citing his inspiration for the album to be fueled by Prince’s albums for Batman (1989) and Batman Forever (1995).

This Summer will be remembered for music and concerts, especially with the addition of Childish Gambino’s tour. You can also listen to his re-imagined album, ATAVISTA here.
