Follow the Yellow Brick Road With New Wicked LEGOs
Earlier this week, LEGO announced a Wicked surprise: a collaboration with the upcoming musical film featuring their twist on the trailer and limited edition brick sets.
Let’s face it. Everyone loves LEGOSs. With collaborations from every major brand in pop culture, the company brings in a diverse range of customers. From building botanicals and flowers to display around your home to collaborations with Marvel, Harry Potter, Minecraft, and Disney, the brand produces sets for every and any occasion.
This time around, LEGO collaborated with the highly popular musical turned film, Wicked. After making its mark on Broadway for over twenty years, the musical is now adapted for the silver screen. Premiering in theaters November 24, the film is already producing merchandise, with LEGO being their first major collaboration.

First, to announce the limited edition collaboration, the brilliant minds at LEGO decided to put their spin on the official trailer for the film. You heard that right, LEGO decided to animate the entire trailer in LEGO form, broomsticks and flying monkeys included.

Viewers immediately notice the attention to detail as they watch the trailer. The brand perfectly “LEGO-ified” the trailer frame by frame. Voiceovers by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo bring their LEGO versions to life, as well as Jeff Goldblum‘s voice as the Wizard of Oz. Adding its flair of humor to the trailer, LEGO portrayed the menacing Wizard by having a huge yellow brick head, the base model for their LEGO sets.
The latest collaboration amazed and shocked fans, with one user tweeting, “WHAT this is the coolest thing i have ever seen.” Another shared, “OH THIS IS SO CUTE!! they recreated the entire wicked trailer with legos!”

Besides the entire trailer being recreated in the iconic brick style, LEGO also changed the main tagline of the official trailer to suit the brand. The original tagline stated, “Everyone deserves the chance to fly,” with the new one reading “Every brick deserves the chance to fly” instead.
As for updates regarding the limited edition sets, mark your calendars. They release on October 1, a month before the film’s premiere. With the date almost five months away, LEGO suggests, “Set a reminder. Put a post-it note on the fridge door. Write it on your forearm after every shower until the time comes. That’s what we’re doing anyway.”

While it is still uncertain what each set will include, the LEGO versions of the characters will likely look the same as those featured in the trailer. With Elphaba’s hat and Glinda’s wand and bubble transformed into LEGOs as well, the characters have as much charm as their live-action counterparts.
Lastly, despite releasing a full LEGO version of the Wicked trailer, both sides are tight-lipped about what magic awaits in their limited edition sets. When asked how many sets will be available in October, LEGO responded with, “You’ll have to wait and see… The better question is – how many LEGO® Wicked sets can you fit in your home?”
Posing a question like that is stirring up a frenzy for all Wicked fans, as they try to imagine what LEGO is conjuring before the official release date. Anticipation builds, with rumors swirling of four sets recreating the “brickified” forms.
Until further updates, you can check out news related to the collaboration and shop other fan-favorite sets on LEGO’s website. You can also view the trailer below.
