Veronica Leoni was announced as the new creative director at Calvin Klein Collection, which could be a real turning point for the brand’s direction and a resurgence on the runway.

Leoni is no stranger to the fashion scene. The Italian-born designer has an extensive résumé. Not only was her brand, Quira, a finalist in the LVMH awards, which invites designers under 40 who have created at least two collections to win a 300,000 European Endowment and a tailored mentorship, but she has also worked with various well-known companies.

Leoni has made quite the mark since being a finalist and her brand’s debut in Milan Fashion Week in 2021. Most recently, she was the design director at Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s brand The Row. The designer also worked for Jil Sander, Celine, and Moncler.

Leoni’s distinct style will pair nicely with the Calvin Klein brand. She is known for clean lines, minimalistic designs, and femininity with an edge. The brand has been quiet since Raf Simmons left the chief creative officer position in 2018.

Calvin Klein has been creeping into the spotlight recently, thanks to Jeremy Allen White’s alluring underwear campaign and Zendaya sporting a Calvin Klein suit in the Rome Challengers premiere.

Leoni’s placement as creative director is also a significant step for women in charge of the fashion industry. Fashion’s most prominent consumers are women, but it’s pretty uncommon that they have roles at the top in making decisions. Leoni now has the opportunity to give Calvin Klein a new life with more direction in creativity and innovation while keeping its classic style intact.
