Chappell Roan Proves She’s a Supernova in Latest Interview
In an interview with Paper Magazine, Trixie Mattel sits down with Chappell Roan to discuss her career, inspirations, and newfound fame.
Even though Roan gained newfound popularity, the singer has been working professionally for a decade. The pop star came out with “Pink Pony Club” in 2020 but decided to rebrand herself after the single dropped.
The “Red Wine Supernova” singer is known for her eccentric fashion choices. She reveals to Mattel, “Truly, I am not trying to be a chic b*tch. I love the chic b*tches, but I am not trying to be like that. Nothing turns me off more than frickin’ luxury brands.”
A perfect opportunity for the ones who have not given some attention to this utterly-talented original-creative artist, spend some time with open ears! Magazine article is beautifully edited! Her music and style are leading now, I am so proud. She’s at front of my curations.https://t.co/KwmgYhymyC

The artist shares the inspiration behind her beauty looks: “I love a pure white face. I started to do that, because that’s what the country boys called gay people in my hometown. I was just like, ‘B*tch, I’ll show you a clown, if you want to see a clown!’ So I started doing that and also referencing the girls in the ‘20s, all the classic stuff. Also my blue eyeshadow, I always love blue eyeshadow and a big red lip, glitter, my favs.”
Mattel describes Roan’s public persona as “part pop star, part drag queen”. According to the “Casual” singer, “It’s the only way to do it. That’s the beauty of drag, and then making it a pop persona that is a drag queen.”

Fans are drawn to the star because of her unfiltered openness about where she’s from and her commitment to her drag personas. The singer expresses, “I feel like I’m just being my 10-year-old self. The whole project is to just honor my 10-year-old self. I just rejected feminine — feminine — I wrote this f*cking song, ‘Feminomenon,’ and I can’t ever say the actual word.”
Recently, the “Good Luck Babe” singer performed at NPR’s Tiny Desk, and it is going viral. The artist reveals that she had a hard time adjusting to her new level of fame. The songwriter expresses, “It feels weird because I’ve been getting recognized a lot. I was crying on the phone to my therapist. I was like, I don’t know what’s going on, this is scary, people are coming up to me and I don’t want to talk to them most of the time, because I’m freaked out. I have nothing else to say.”
Despite Roan’s love for a themed show, the singer reveals that she hates the rainbow. She states, “I would do rainbow-themed, for small ass towns in nowhere, Florida, where they can’t say gay. That is their Pride. They will not be able to wear a rainbow again, because they’re only allowed to wear a rainbow for one day of the year.” Fans constantly praise Roan for her openness on queer issues and for providing a safe space at her shows.
