The titular Angry Birds of Rovio’s legendary puzzle game series are preparing to take flight once again.

Deadline reported that Rovio Entertainment Corporation and Sega Studios are developing a new Angry Birds film. They will produce it alongside Prime Focus Studios, Flywheel Media, and One Cool Group.

In addition, it has been reported that Emmy-winner Jason Sudeikis and Josh Gad will return as Red and Chuck, respectively. It is unknown if other stars like Kate McKinnon, Peter Dinklage, and Maya Rudolph will reprise their roles.

The first two Angry Birds films were released in 2016 and 2019. In an era when video game adaptations struggled to gain traction, they were among the first to succeed. Together, the two films grossed about half a billion dollars worldwide. Although Sony distributed the first two films, the article does not make clear whether they will do so again.

John Rice, who co-directed the previous Angry Birds film, is directing the sequel on his own. In addition, Thurop Van Orman, the creator of the iconic animated series Flapjack, is writing the script. He previously served as the other co-director on the second film. Other producers attached to the project include John Cohen (The Garfield Movie), Dan Chuba (The Mitchells vs. the Machines), and Carla Conner (The Lego Movie).

Sudeikis is coming off an Emmy nomination for the final season of Ted Lasso. He will appear next in the Hulu animated series Hit-Monkey. Meanwhile, Gad will appear in the series Wonder Man, which is currently in post-production. He may also return to the role of Olaf for Disney’s upcoming Frozen 3, set to release in theaters in 2026.

There is currently no release date for The Angry Birds Movie 3.
