Open up the door. Billie Eilish just released a new music video for her hit single, “CHIHIRO.”

Eilish’s music videos have become a hallmark of her musical creativity, as they are known to be memorable and visually stunning. The “Happier Than Ever” singer’s last music video was for “LUNCH,” the first single from her third studio album, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT. The “LUNCH” music video reached seven million views on YouTube within the first 20 hours of its release. On June 6, she released a new music video for “CHIHIRO,” the second hit single from HIT ME HARD AND SOFT.

The video, which Eilish directed herself, begins with the “What Was I Made For?” singer walking down a dark, empty hallway and shutting all the doors in her path. The shutting of doors, according to a press release of the music video, symbolizes “the different corners of the mind.” Eilish then bounds up the stairs to find her partner, portrayed by actor Nat Wolff, and chases him down the hallway and into a room, where Wolff disappears.

The dynamic between the co-leads is equal parts intimate and tense; even as they argue throughout the video, they cannot deny their “inescapable connection,” as the “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” singer described in the press release.

The two then find each other again in the hallway and begin to fight intensely. The anger between the pair transforms into joy, as they run toward the exit, holding hands. Frantic, blurry shots of the outdoors showcase the “dream-like narrative” that she envisioned for the video. The singer appears again, and Wolff chases after her in a field.

As the video ends, the two wrestle in the grass, then find peace sitting together as the sun sets. According to the singer, this exchange between the pair symbolizes the “external expression of an internal push and pull, as our deepest feelings of fear, love, or desire inevitably catch up to us, no matter how hard we try to run away.”

Fans everywhere are applauding the “CHIHIRO” music video. Within the first 10 minutes of its debut, the new video surpassed 100,000 views on YouTube. The video has now received over a million views.
