Yara Shahidi: An Underrated Fashion Icon
Although she is known for her acting roles, Yara Shahidi has become an underrated fashion icon.
Shahidi describes finding her personal style as a way of finding herself. The actress told Harper’s Bazaar, “I do think I feel my most beautiful when I am the most myself. And, actually, I have really been trying to get back to me as much as possible. Of late, I have definitely been on a personal journey to make sure that I don’t need to two hours of glam and all these skincare routines to feel good about myself.”
In analyzing the Black-ish actress’s fashion choice, we must discuss her hair. Shahidi has a fascinating background. Her mother is African-American with Choctaw heritage, and her father is Iranian American. For that, Shahidi has very Afrocentric, natural curly hair. The Sun Is Also a Star actress tends to show off her natural hair in various braids, curls, and twist-like styles in and out of the spotlight.

Shahidi is an activist for social change outside of acting. She’s spoken out in the past about the genocide in Gaza, women’s rights, and the Black Lives Matter movement. In the same Harper’s Bazaar article, the Grown-ish actress explained that she prefers having a personal experience with a brand before wearing it out publicly, which is why she is a big fan of Max Mara.

Not only does the actress like the classic chic style of the clothes, but their support of the arts. The Peter Pan and Wendy actress is very involved in styling for public outings. She tends to lean towards androgynous silhouettes, muted colors, and all-black ensembles.
Off the carpet, Shahidi especially finds herself in button-ups and trousers, really prioritizing comfortability. At this point in her life, with all the different fittings she’s done, the actress has a much better understanding of her fashion choices.
Shahidi told Harper’s Bazaar that Solange is one of her biggest style inspirations. She shared, “[Solange] never lets the dress wear her, and she changes the entire energy of the space with how she shows up. I always love that – people who are fun and playful on the red carpet.” The actress is a big fan of authenticity and can channel that into her looks.
