A haunting new look at Robert Eggers’ reimagining of the cult-classic film Nosferatu has dropped its official trailer.

Firstly, horror fans rejoice as the first official trailer has been released for Nosferatu. While the concept of Nosferatu originally started as a book in 1897, the iconic vampire’s tale was later turned into a silent film released in 1922. Now over a hundred years later, director Robert Eggers is bringing a new take on the twisted gothic horror film.

Starring Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hutter, the woman Nosferatu becomes deeply obsessed with, the trailer explores her character. While Hutter’s husband, Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult) navigates his newest client as a real estate agent. What Thomas fails to realize is that his newest client, Count Orlok, is a centuries-old vampire.

Other actors who will be starring in the film are Aaron Taylor Johnson (Friedrich Harding), Emma Corrin (Anna Harding), and Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (Professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz).

Next, the actor who is portraying one of the most famous vampires is none other than Bill Skarsgård. Known for his role as the terrifying clown Pennywise in Stephen King’s IT, the actor also portrayed Eric Draven in the reboot of The Crow this year. His latest look as Count Orlok has yet to be revealed. Skarsgård only appeared in a few shots throughout the trailer, as his silhouette looms against the dark backdrop. With great mystery surrounding his look, his haunting presence causes even greater tension between him and Hutter.

Now, who is behind the new retelling of the cult-classic vampire? Director Robert Eggers, known for his other horror films such as The Witch and The Lighthouse, will be retelling the classic tale with a twist. Not only will Eggers direct the film, but he will also be writing and producing the film as well. A top contender amongst horror fans for his work, we have no doubt that this is one of the most anticipated films of the year.

Lastly, the trailer is a visually stunning masterpiece, complete with dark undertones and fires set ablaze across the town. As the townsfolk grow more worrisome about Count Orlok, the suspension grows tense through music, switching to Hutter, portrayed by Depp, covered in blood as the vampire’s obsession becomes much darker than everyone had planned.

Succumb to the darkness this Christmas, as the film will be releasing December 25. Watch the official teaser trailer below.
