This week, the U.S. gymnastics teams had a world-win of emotions as they took to the Olympic mat during team finals. The women’s team, Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, Suni Lee, and Hezly Rivera, achieved their dreams of receiving gold.

On July 30, the U.S.A. women’s gymnastics team performed a memorable night in Paris, taking home gold. The U.S. scored 171.296, six points ahead of Italy in second place and almost seven points from Brazil with a bronze medal. The night started strong on the vault, with each gymnast performing one of their best passes yet.

The gymnasts cheered on the sidelines for their teammates through the highs and lows of each routine. They ended the night on their best event, the floor exercise, with Lee achieving a clean performance. Chiles performed a show-stopping routine, and with tears in her eyes, she took in the cheers from the crowd. Biles wrapped up the competition with her unforgettable performance. She stepped out of bounds twice and even rolled her eyes, but with her huge difficulty, once she landed her last pass, her team jumped with joy, knowing that they had just secured gold.

Biles now holds eight Olympic medals, making her the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history, surpassing legendary Shannon Miller.

Biles shared on Instagram, “lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions.” After a recent interview with MyKayla Skinner, she stated that U.S. gymnasts today are not as tough as they were and are lazy compared to past years. Backlash filled social media as fans expressed how current gymnasts are having fun in the sport and are winning in style. Lee commented on Biles’ post, “Put a finger down if simone biles just ended you.”

The men’s team, consisting of Brody Malone, Frederick Richard, Asher Hong, Paul Juda, and Stephen Nedoroscik, ended a 16-year drought on the sport’s biggest stage. Taking to the floor on Monday evening at Bercy Arena, Paris, the team won bronze—their first medal since 2008. The team coursed through the night, hitting solid routines on every event.

The gymnast, Nedoroscik, became an overnight internet sensation on social media platforms. From humorous memes to heartwarming comments, fans are amazed at the gymnast’s outstanding routine on the pommel horse.

Nedoroscik stated, “I think it’s cool.” Adding, “I’m honored that they chose me, but I think any one of these guys could also be blowing up. In fact, I hope they do discover these guys because they’re all just great men.”
