A24 has just released a new trailer for Heretic, an upcoming thriller starring Hugh Grant that combines both holy and horror coming soon to theaters.

First, what is exactly Heretic about? After releasing their latest slate of upcoming films, including We Live In Time and Marty Supreme, a new thriller takes center stage. Starring the brilliant Hugh Grant alongside Chloe East and Sophie Thatcher, the thriller encapsulates a mixture of both holy and horror. Praised as “wickedly entertaining” by A24, the devil is in the details but with an unusual twist. The main lesson to learn from the upcoming film? Seeing is believing.

Religion will be the main underlying tone of the film, filled with claustrophobic views and a creepy social experiment taken too far. As those religious ideas are in mind, Grant’s character is a diabolical man at the center of the evil awaiting his subjects. Thatcher (Yellowjackets) and East (The Fabelmans) portray two young Mormon missionaries, Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton. During their travels, they approach the door of Mr. Reed, portrayed by Grant.

The young women quickly realize they knocked on the wrong door. Soon after being greeted by Mr. Reed, the young women are thrown into a test of their faith in a deadly game of cat and mouse. The trailer features Mr. Reed setting the scene by lighting candles, a Book of Mormon placed centerfold, and carving figures for an eerie dollhouse.

As the young women explore Mr. Reed’s house of horrors, they will discover the frightening and wicked mind games awaiting their arrival. In addition, faith will also be a core theme besides religious views. How far would your beliefs stretch to survive the darkest times? Is your faith strong enough to call on even during the most unpredictable events curated by the man himself? Find out the answers to these questions and more on November 8. Until then, watch the new trailer down below.
