Wuthering Heights: Emerald Fennell Announces New Cast to Her Adaptation
Emerald Fennell has cast Euphoria star Jacob Elordi and Acadamy Award nominee Margot Robbie to star in her upcoming film adaptation of Wuthering Heights.
English actress, writer, and filmmaker, Emerald Fennell, announced in July that she planned on adapting the gothic romance novel into a film. Posting a teaser to her account on X, Fennell aired an illustration with a quote pulled from Emily Brontë’s book.

It wasn’t until September that the lead roles were filled with the A-listers, but additional casting has yet to be announced. With Robbie and Elordi on the project, the two are anticipated to portray Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. Carrying themes of revenge and passion, the stars are expected to explore an obsessive and destructive romance.
While plot details of the adaptation are unknown at the moment, viewers can assume that the narrative won’t stray too far from the novel itself.

Originally published in 1847, Emily Brontë’s novel was regarded by many as one of the greatest works of literature at that time. The story centers around two families, the Earnshaws and the Lintons. The novel primarily focuses on the fiercely passionate romance that develops between Heathcliff, an orphan raised by the Earnshaw family, and Catherine Earnshaw, the daughter of his benefactor. The tension shared by the two leads to years of pain, anguish, and revenge, not only for them but for everyone who kept Heathcliff away from courting Catherine.
In addition to being nominated for three Golden Globes and three Primetime Emmy honors, Emerald Fennell has won several awards, including two British Academy Film Awards, one Screen Actors Guild Award, and one Academy Award. Winner of five Academy Awards, including Best Original Screenplay, Best Picture, and Best Director, Fennell has been a prominent figure within the film industry and an inspiration to aspiring filmmakers. She was recognized as the first woman from Britain to be nominated in the directing category, and one of merely seven women overall. Her works in directing Saltburn and Promising Young Woman, along with her acting credits in Barbie and Anna Karenina, have successfully earned her recognition.
With pre-production currently in the works, the U.K.-based production is projected to start filming in 2025.
