Wizards of Waverly Place Meets Generation Alpha in New Sequel
The Russo siblings are back at it. Fans have been missing their daily dose of magic since Wizards of Waverly Place ended in 2012, and now they are back with new adventures.
Looking back at the series’s success, Disney secured over 10 million live and same-day views with its finale. The series surpassed That’s So Raven‘s record, with 106 episodes over four seasons. Viewers fell in love with the show’s touch of magic and its awareness of reality regarding the Russos family bonding. Wizards even won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Children Program in 2010.
Selena Gomez, who portrayed Alex Russo in the series, also expressed her sadness, stating, “I was on Wizards of Waverly Place from when I was 14 until I was 18 or 19, and I thank God for that show.” However, she, as well as the rest of the cast, were onto better things.
A New Beginning
All grown up now, nostalgia takes over, and the stars crave a comeback. Along with this same excitement, David Henrie (Justin Russo), told The Hollywood Reporter, “Enough time has passed the original fans of the show have kids themselves, and we were like, we should bring, we should repackage the themes, the value, the spirit of the original shows the universe of the original show and present it to a whole new audience.”
With the actors on board and fans having watched the same four seasons for years, it was about time for a new season for audiences to binge. Wizards Beyond Waverly will be released this October 29 on Disney+, bringing in the wizard magic just in time for Halloween weekend.
The new plot follows grown-up Justin helping out his little sister, Alex Russo, to mentor a new wizard, Billie. Depicted by new face Janice LeAnne Brown, who was previously seen as the younger Rue in MAX’s Euphoria. Other faces joining Brown are Mimi Gianopulos as Justin’s wife, Alkaio Thiele, and Max Matenko as their children. These wizards are back and better.
