Billie Eilish Shares on Politics, Fame, and Sexuality in New Interview
Billie Eilish opens up in Vogue‘s November issue about the highs and challenges of stardom, reflecting on fame, media scrutiny of her personal life, and her thoughts on the 2024 election.
The singer, currently on her sold-out HIT ME HARD AND SOFT tour in support of her third studio album, is reaching new heights of fame. The album features the hit single “Birds of a Feather,” which is now peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. In her Vogue interview, Eilish shared that as her career soars, she has learned the importance of maintaining balance.

“Over time, I think I’ve made a really good mixture, making sure I feel like myself, and I’m not only being satisfied by external validation,” she told Vogue. “For many years, the audience reaction was the only thing that mattered. If I was happy in my life, it was because people loved me on the internet. And if I was upset in my life, it was usually because people didn’t.”
With her rising fame, Eilish has often found herself in the spotlight for her personal life, particularly her dating history and, more recently, her sexuality. In 2023, the GRAMMY winner felt she was inadvertently “outed” at a red carpet event when questioned about her supposed coming out in her November 2023 Variety cover story. Eilish told Vogue she wishes her sexuality had remained private.
“I wish no one knew anything about my sexuality or anything about my dating life. Ever, ever, ever,” The singer told Vogue. “And I hope that they never will again. And I’m never talking about my sexuality ever again. And I’m never talking about who I’m dating ever again.”
However, the “Birds of a Feather” singer has now shifted her focus to the upcoming 2024 election, recently endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris. This isn’t the first time she has spoken out about politics or social justice, and she describes this election as “the most important of our lives.”
“Really big fan of human rights. Really big fan of women’s rights and women’s reproductive rights and social justice and gun laws.“ The star stated. “A lot of my fans are going to be able to vote for the first time. So I’m like, “Do you like freedom?” First female president? Would be really amazing. I would love to feel safe as a woman in my country.”
