First Looks of Stephanie Hsu in New Peacock Rom-Com Laid
Peacock has set a release date for its new comedy, Laid, which is led by the stunning Stephanie Hsu and her character’s deadly body count.
The streaming platform released the first teaser and looks for the anticipated comedy on October 23. The series features an impressive lineup of guest stars, including Finneas O’Connell, Olivia Holt, and David Denman. All eight episodes will drop as the holiday season is in full motion, allowing viewers to bundle up and binge-watch the half-hour episodes on December 19.
The Everything Everywhere All At Once star has had a busy couple of years, landing roles in Joy Ride, The Wild Robot, and The Fall Guy. The Oscar nominee shared in an interview, “Everything I’ve ever done, I’ve followed simply from the very sweet seed of artistic sprout. Suddenly, when the world was my oyster, I was getting so many scripts from people I had never heard of or even people who were really well-known.” However, this will be a new adventure for the actress.

In this new release, Hsu will play Ruby, a woman faced with an unusual dilemma: her former lovers are dying mysteriously. Faced with this startling news, Ruby has to dive into her past and track down her ex-relationships to warn them about their morbid fate. Thankfully, her best friend AJ, portrayed by Zosia Mamet, is there to help her every step of the way.
Co-showrunners and executive producers Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna describe Laid as a fresh take on the romantic comedy genre. They sought to create a narrative that blends classic romantic tropes with unexpected twists. “It could be optimistic and heartwarming, but it should probably also have suspense, death, and blood,” they shared, emphasizing the show’s unique take. Modern dating can be a challenge and a difficult world to maneuver. The talented pair announced that the series will answer the question, “‘Why can’t I find love? Is there something wrong with me?’ with a resounding, ‘Yes. There is. The problem is definitely you.'” As many of us in our 20s can relate, this plot is destined to be a crowd-favorite this winter.
Alongside this uplifting new Peacock original, fans are also excited to witness Finneas’s return to the acting scene. Although many were unaware of the artist’s acting career, you may recognize his roles in Glee as Alistair and Bad Teacher as Spencer.
