Love Is in the Air: Nina Dobrev and Shaun White Announce Engagement After 5 Years
After five years of dating, Nina Dobrev and Shaun White have confirmed their engagement, sharing adorable photos on social media that have fans buzzing with excitement.
The couple made their announcement in the heart of New York City, where three-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White proposed to The Vampire Diaries actress at The Golden Swan with a dazzling five-carat Lorraine Schwartz ring. According to Vogue, White orchestrated an elaborate ruse, inviting The Bricklayer actress under the pretense of attending a CFDA/Vogue dinner with Anna Wintour. “Here’s the thing about Nina,” White shared with Vogue. “She’s incredibly organized and rarely surprised, but she loves being surprised. So, I had to find a way to surprise her.”
The Golden Swan proposal was not White’s original plan. Initially, he considered proposing during their summer vacation, but the actress’s unexpected injury from a dirt biking accident delayed the moment. Another idea was to pop the question during their trip to Cape Town for The Earthshot Prize Ceremony, yet that also didn’t work out. She admitted she began to suspect an engagement when friends frequently asked about it with growing curiosity.
Once White decided on New York City as the perfect setting, he spent weeks hiding the ring at home to avoid spoiling the surprise. “The garage?” he laughed. “I thought, She’s definitely not going out there.”
The proposal couldn’t have gone better. Reflecting on his fiancé’s reaction, White commented, “I could tell she was nervous because she started making jokes, asking, ‘So, wait, Anna’s not here?’” Despite her nerves, the Degrassi Alumni later shared that even though she may have “blacked out” mid-proposal, “he said all the right things.”

The couple, who confirmed their relationship in 2019 and moved in together during the COVID-19 pandemic, have expressed how meaningful their time together has been. White described his now-fiancé as a “lifesaver” during the pandemic, admitting, “She really made that time in my life special.”
