Selena Gomez graces the cover of The Hollywood Reporter as she promotes her latest film, Emilia Pérez. In the feature, the actress discusses her role in the film, her evolving relationship with music, and her recent milestone of achieving billionaire status.

Gomez’s rise to stardom began with her memorable role as Alex Russo on Disney Channel’s hit series Wizards of Waverly Place. As one of Disney’s golden girls, she seamlessly transitioned into the music industry, achieving global success with over 210 million records sold. Despite these accomplishments, Gomez reveals that acting has always been her true passion.

“Music will always be in my soul, but I never really got to spend enough time in the field that I originally wanted to be in,” the actress shared with The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve been very strategic and trying my hardest to pick projects that are going to be compelling and not necessarily what people would envision me doing. That’s something I get a high off of.”

Currently generating Oscar buzz for her performance in Emilia Pérez, Gomez caught the attention of director Jacques Audiard, who appreciated her work in Spring Breakers despite her polarizing status as a pop culture icon. To avoid biases tied to her celebrity, Gomez often auditions anonymously for roles she’s passionate about.

"If they think I’m too young for a part, or whatever the case may be, we use a tactic where we don’t tell them it’s me auditioning so that they just have to accept me auditioning," the star explained. Because sometimes even them just hearing that I want to audition, they’ll be like, “No, that’s not going to match for what we’re doing."

While commanding attention in audition rooms, the mogul has also been managing the runaway success of her Rare Beauty brand. The company’s achievements propelled her to billionaire status in October. Despite this milestone, Gomez maintains that it hasn’t significantly changed her life.

“I don’t really pay much attention. I don’t think anything about me has changed. I don’t think that I feel different. I think I’m just really proud. And also, personally, I just don’t think it’s anyone’s business,” Gomez stated.

Fans celebrated the actress’s cover feature and ongoing success on social media.
