Ariana Grande Celebrates Her First Golden Globe Nomination for Wicked
The Golden Globes have reported their nominees for the 82 Annual Golden Globes, with Ariana Grande among them, who happily shared the news with the world.
If you’re an Ariana Grande or Wicked fan, you know how special this nomination is. In 2011, she manifested her future without even knowing it by tweeting about her aspiration to become Glinda. 13 years later, her dream would come true. The singer is in the running for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture. She is up against Selena Gomez (Emilia Pérez), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), Margaret Qualley (The Substance), Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez).
“i’m still recovering thank you again for this acknowledgment,” she wrote on her Instagram story. “I love Glinda so much. I have learned so much from her.. and to be nominated in such company of so many brilliant women that i admire so, means so much.”
Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo, who portrayed Elphaba, was also nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category. Erivo also shared her thoughts on an Instagram story, dedicating a heartfelt paragraph to her co-star, expressing how proud she is of her. “I’m so proud of you. You’re so deserving of this moment and I’m glad I get to share the seconds and the moments and the days and the years with you,” she stated. “May there be many more journeys to take both on and off screen, it is an honor to be able to hold your hand.”
The film itself received two nominations: Best Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. This is no surprise, considering the film’s opening weekend hit a whopping $114 million at the box office. Three weeks in, it has drawn in $320.5 million and is ranked fourth in the 2024 box office charts nationwide.
