Sydney Sweeney is clapping back at the haters. After receiving numerous hateful online comments, the actress created a video diminishing the hateful rhetoric.

Before hateful comments began to spread about Sweeney online, she was cast as Christy Martin, an American boxer with a chilling true story, even a near-death experience. Her life will be retold in an upcoming biopic with Sweeney in the title role. To prepare for the role and resemble Martin as closely as possible, the actress trained for several weeks to gain a similar appearance to the boxer’s golden career days.

Once photos of the actress started emerging online, where it is evident she gained muscle due to strength training, hateful and vile comments began to surface, quickly spreading. In the video posted by Sweeney, multiple comments with disgusting rhetoric can be read. “Dive into a swimming pool of donuts and chips?” reads one comment, followed by “Butterface” and “Quite frumpy isn’t she.”

Any type of body shaming, especially commenting on one’s appearance from behind a screen, is unacceptable. In addition to the multitude of comments, it was important to note the irony. One user commented, “Go back to the gym, girl,” to which the video cuts to a sweet surprise. She included multiple photos and videos of her in the gym. From lifting weights to tires to boxing, she is no stranger to the epitome of strength.

While a majority of the comments were focused on her attractiveness, it is important to realize how often celebrities, especially female celebrities, struggle with comments on their body images. So many women struggle with body issues every day. Furthermore, when women are in the public eye, haters rejoice in the ultimate jealous frenzy as they are behind a screen with no profile picture.

Fans and other celebrities united in supporting the actress by clapping back. “Strong baddie,” Kesha commented. “You’re such a bad***. This movie is gonna be fire” fellow co-star and friend Glen Powell stated. Multiple fans were quick to notice the brutal misogyny from the male commenters. “I bet most of these comments are from men who know very well they would never ever have a chance with you lol,” one fan commented.

While Sweeney continues her strength training and transformation into an even “stronger baddie,” she assured fans to expect more biopic content soon.
