Hollywood icon Tom Hanks and his wife, actress and singer Rita Wilson, narrowly escaped a potential disaster as the recent Palisades Fire came dangerously close to their $26 million residence.

The couple purchased their stunning 14,000-square-foot home in 2010 from The Sixth Sense producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. Nestled in the Pacific Palisades, the three-story mansion boasts four bedrooms and five bathrooms. Originally built in 1996, the property underwent a major renovation in 2006, combining modern luxury with timeless elegance.

The Palisades Fire, which erupted earlier this week, has devastated large portions of the Topanga and Eastern Malibu regions. While Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s property ultimately escaped significant damage, many of their neighbors in the affluent Pacific Palisades area were not as fortunate. Several homes suffered severe structural loss, leaving families displaced and grappling with the aftermath. Notable celebrities, including Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, as well as Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, were among those reported to have lost their homes in the inferno.

The residence had also endured a burglary last August. According to ABC 7, “Nobody was home at the time, and investigators don’t believe the burglars knew it was the actor’s home.”

However, the Palisades residence is not the only property Hanks and Wilson own. The couple purchased their first home in the Pacific Palisades in 1988, the same year they wed, for $1.6 million. They resided in the 6,000-square-foot Spanish-style home until 2013, eventually selling it for $5 million.

The couple also owns a beachfront property in Malibu, though it remains unclear whether it has been or will be affected by the flames. In 1992, they purchased the 1,800-square-foot home for $2.5 million, and they still own it today. The home offers an unobstructed view of Malibu’s iconic blue beaches and is “nestled in the coveted guard-gated Colony enclave, where Woody Harrelson, Tori Spelling, Bill Murray, and Bette Midler have also owned properties,” according to Architectural Digest.

Hanks and Wilson’s son, Chet Hanks, who resides in Nashville, took to Instagram Stories to express his sorrow over losing his childhood neighborhood. “The neighborhood I grew up in is burning to the ground rn. Pray for the Palisades,” he wrote.

Celebrities across the country have taken to social media with heavy hearts, spreading love and support for those affected.
