Mon Laferte Announces New Single ‘Otra Noche de Llorar’
Multi-Latin Grammy Award-winning Mon Laferte announced that her new single “Otra Noche de Llorar” will be released on March 13.
Released in 2023, Laferte’s album, Autopoiética, centered around the artist’s rebirth. The name came from Chilean biologists Francisco Varela and Humberto Maturana’s concept of “autopoiesis,” the process by which cells auto-generate.
Laferte shared with Rolling Stone, “I like the idea of being ‘autopoietic,’ of having the capacity all the time to recreate myself.” This is not the first time the Chilean-Mexican artist has reinvented herself, having started over her entire music career, name, image, and style in the early 2010s after recovering from thyroid cancer.
She is known for dramatic performances and sad songs, but she has not let society’s image of her cage her in one place. Her song “No+Sad” is a perfect example of this with lyrics such as “‘She’s not the same girl as before / we’re going to bury her’ / I’m not going to be sad.”
“That is how I define success: being free to create,” she stated to Rolling Stone. Her bold genre-mixing album Autopoiética went on to be Grammy-nominated this year and took the win at the Latin Grammys for Best Alternative Music Album.
The last time fans heard Laferte singing something new was on MTV Unplugged with her cover alongside the Chilean rock band Los Bunkers of the Mexican artist Emmanuel’s hit song “Quiero Dormir Cansado.”
Since then, she teased her new upcoming single “Otra Noche de Llorar.” Starting in January, she posted on her Instagram Stories and X, formerly Twitter, simply posting the title on different days alongside a variety of emojis.
Fans are now excited to soon have new music from the award-winning singer
After the official announcement, one fan commented, “YOU LEFT ME LIKE THISSS,” alongside an image of a normal heart rate turning scrambled.
While there has been no news other than the song title and cover art, the song is most likely going to be embracing her famous melodramatic side. A week after the release of her new single, the international musician will perform at Chile’s Lollapalooza, headlined by artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Shawn Mendes.
