BRIT Award-nominated band Nova Twins dropped their latest single, “Soprano,” and announced their upcoming new album, Parasites & Butterflies.

Nova Twins’ most recent album, Supernova, was released in 2022 and was a hit in the United Kingdom. The album was nominated the following year for two BRIT Awards in the categories of British Group and Rock/Alternative Act.

Since then, they have toured, opening for legendary artists such as Foo Fighters and Muse. Later this year they will open up for Lenny Kravitz and take back the stage at Glastonbury Festival in addition to their tour for their new album kicking off September 17 in Utrecht, Netherlands.

Earlier this year, the pair performed at the MOBO Awards and released their first song of the year, “Monsters,” which will appear on the new album alongside their most recent release, “Soprano.”

On this week’s release, the band wrote on Instagram, “It’s about celebrating the power of women, especially when we unite. The industry often pits us against each other, and women’s voices are silenced worldwide. But we’re still shouting from the rooftops. We wrote Soprano to spread boss energy. Sing it with your bestie.”

Nova Twins’ Amy Love and Georgia South have long been activists for women and diversity. Many of their songs have themes of empowerment for Black women and women in general, with songs such as “Cleopatra,” “Bullet,” and “Soprano.” They’ve also spoken out on their misogynistic experiences in the music industry and have worked at making spaces more inclusive to all kinds of women.

“If we can encourage people to be open-minded and diversify, but also be a reflection for a young girl who hasn’t picked up her instrument yet but sees us or someone else in our community and believes ‘I can play that as well,’ that’s us doing our job. It’s not just about us anymore. We’re part of a bigger picture and hopefully, we can help be a part of that change,” South stated to NME in an interview.

The rock duo has created that change with their music and starting a scholarship for students enrolled in The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance’s Creative Musicianship program to encourage new voices interested in the music industry.

Their new album, Parasites & Butterflies, is set to release on August 29 and is stated to bring a mix of genres and center empowerment and mental health at a new level—exciting fans.
