HBO Confirms New Cast Members for Harry Potter Reboot
HBO confirmed that several new cast members would join the Harry Potter series.
Argus Filch
Paul Whitehouse is set to star as Hogwarts’ caretaker, Argus Filch. He has starred in projects such as The Fast Show, Ghost Stories, The Corpse Bride, The Death of Stalin, and more. He starred in one of the original films, Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban, where he portrayed Sir Cadogan.
Professor Quirrell
Luke Thallon, most widely known for his work in theater, joins the cast as Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor Quirinus Quirrell. In a recent interview with Deadline, Thallon expressed his interest in joining the film industry, mentioning that he was waiting for the right role.
“I would love to do something on screen. I really would,” Thallon stated. “There’s no pretending that I turn lots of things down, but I’m just waiting for the reason to go to screen to be as exciting and as fulfilling as the things I get to do on stage now.”
Professor McGonagall
Janet McTeer will feature as Professor Minerva McGonagall. McTeer is widely known for Ozark, Me Before You, The White Queen, and Kaos.
Professor Snape
Paapa Essiedu will star as Professor Severus Snape. Essiedu most recently starred in The Outrun, Genie, and The Project Lazarus. In addition, he is also a regular on Gangs of London and The Capture.
Rubeus Hagrid
Nick Frost will embody gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid. Frost is a British comedian who has starred in many projects, such as Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and Truth Seekers.
Headmaster Dumbledore
John Lithgow has also now been confirmed to star as the Hogwarts headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. A few months ago, Lithgow hinted at his acceptance of the role.
More Information About the Series
Francesca Gardiner, the series’ showrunner and executive producer, and Mark Mylod, a director of multiple episodes and executive producer, addressed the confirmed castings in a press release.
“We are happy to announce the casting of John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, Nick Frost, Luke Thallon, and Paul Whitehouse to play Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell, and Filch,” they stated. “We’re delighted to have such extraordinary talent onboard, and we can’t wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new life.”
Casting will continue as many roles remain unfilled, including those of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, which were originally held by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson.
J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, is involved in the project as an executive producer. Gardiner serves as both a writer and executive producer for the series and Mylod directs and produces several episodes. Executive producers for the series include Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman. Brontë Film and TV, Warner Bros. Television, and Heyday Films are the production companies involved.
While we wait for more details, all of the Harry Potter films can be streamed on Max.
