Alicia Silverstone is set to reprise her role as the adorably flirtatious Cher Horowitz. While details are under wraps, one thing’s certain: her outfits will be major. And, with today’s technology, it’s only right that she still has a rotating closet. Right?

The team behind beloved teen dramas like Gossip Girl and The O.C., Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, are set to pen the script alongside Jordan Weiss. The heart of Cher will indeed be embedded in the series as Silverstone has been named executive producer.

This isn’t the first time a Clueless sequel series has been in development. Back in 2020, Peacock housed the idea of a series where Cher mysteriously disappeared and shifted its focus to her best friend Dionne.

But did you know that from 1997-1999, a Clueless series, possessing the same name and cast, was a part of ABC’s TGIF lineup? The series followed Cher and her friends around high school for three seasons. Silverstone had a conflicting deal with Columbia-TriStar, forcing her to sit out while Rachel Blanchard stepped into the lead role.

Ultimately, neither idea was a smashing success, so we’re back with a new concept that, so far, has fans buzzing.

The 1995 film was loosely inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma. Clueless follows Beverly Hills queen bee Cher Horowitz, a lovable, well-meaning matchmaker with a heart as big as her closet. Armed with her iconic computer-powered wardrobe and endless one-liners, Cher redefined what it meant to be popular with kindness, confidence, and killer knee-highs.

The film introduced viewers to a new generation of actors who took the industry by storm, including Silverstone, Stacey Dash, Donald Faison, and the late Brittany Murphy.

Clueless is available to rent on Apple TV+.
