After creating a song with Migos, Katy Perry performs with them at SNL and it makes the black community uncomfortable. Her moves just seemed culturally appropriated, as if she was trying to be someone else. The songstress awkwardly tried to compare to black culture instead of just being Katy Perry. Yet, the biggest story we will see in media is how Migos refused to perform on stage with drag queens which led to Katy Perry unfollowing Migos on Instagram.
Katy Perry upset many trying to be the “cool kid at the table” during her performance. Her moves made a lot of people cringe just because she was trying to be someone that she was not and trying to fit with a community of people that she cannot relate to. In trying to relate to people, in any spectrum, the best that could be done is being yourself, acknowledging your identity and how it relates to the world in any giving moment and owning up to that status. By staying humble, you can understand more of a culture and connect to people more by acknowledging your presence.
