‘Dear Evan Hansen’ Scores Big At The Tony Awards
Pitch Perfect star Ben Platt led his Broadway play to victory!
The 71st annual Tony Awards ocurred on Sunday, June 11. The show aired live on CBS from the Radio City Music Hall in New York City and was hosted by Kevin Spacey. Dear Evan Hansen was the big winner at the award ceremony this year. The play was nominated for nine awards and won six in total.
The Broadway musical follows Evan Hansen (Ben Platt), a high school senior suffering from social anxiety who discovers himself after the death of one of his classmates. The story is based on the book of the same name written by Steven Levenson and first published in 2015, and the musical was written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
Dear Evan Hansen stars Ben Platt, the Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2 actor who is now taking the musical theater world by storm. He won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his role in the musical. The list of the other awards won by Dear Evan Hansen are listed below:
