Jodie Whittaker Cast As First Female Doctor In ‘Doctor Who’
Doctor Who fans, rejoice!
The hit science fiction show made headlines following its recent casting news. It was recently announced that Jodie Whittaker will be taking over the coveted role as the 13th Doctor. She will be the first female doctor since the show first aired in 1963.
Previously, fans had been excitedly waiting for news about the new Doctor since Peter Capaldi announced his departure as the 12th Doctor back in January. And although this is pretty great news, some fans haven’t been as happy for the actress. Since the role has been traditionally given to a man, it’s rocked the fandom community.
New Head Writer and Executive Producer Chris Chibnall, however, told The Guardian he has complete faith in the casting choice:
“I always knew I wanted the 13th Doctor to be a woman and we’re thrilled to have secured our number one choice. Her audition for the Doctor simply blew us all away. Jodie is an in-demand, funny, inspiring, super-smart force of nature and will bring loads of wit, strength, and warmth for the role. The 13th Doctor is on her way.”
With that being said, even Colin Baker, who played the 6th Doctor, has shown his full support for Whittaker.
It’s about time there was a female Doctor on board the show!
