Laverne Cox Speaks Out Against Trump’s Transgender Military Ban
Trans rights are human rights!
Laverne Cox, a significant voice in the transgender community, condemns President Trump’s ban on transgender individuals from serving in the U.S. military through social media posts.
Laverne thanked the “trans folks currently serving in the military” for their service, continuing with “marginalized folks have often found ourselves at odds with systems which seek to subjugate and erase us.”
Laverne also tweeted “your lives, safety, and service matter #TransIsBeautiful”.
She also met with transgender service members to discuss their experiences in the military. Laverne explains that she heard humiliating stories of being misgendered and experiencing mistreatment when they are willing to put their lives on the line in ways many of us would never do.
She ends with “let’s all come together and send the message to trans Americans that despite what this president and administration proclaims that trans lives, safety and service are valuable, that they matter!”
