Some people were introduced to the City Girls through Drake’s “In My Feelings” song and video. And to be quite honest, they were the real stars. Jatavia Johnson “JT,” and Caresha Brownlee “Yung Miami,” the rap duo, City Girls.

In the Hip-Hop industry, it is quite common for male rappers to flex how much wealth that they have. The City Girls rep Miami and they give advice to women through their music about not entertaining a man that is below them, in other words, without money.

They are not soft spoken and not afraid to speak their minds. It is refreshing to see that wave coming from a female rapper; it’s more honest and they are clear about their intentions. On their Instagram page, they repost videos of women singing their songs and it was uplifting to a lot of women who are tired of the bare minimum.

The City Girls give hope to regular hood girls who are not afraid to be themselves no matter what people say. In society, girls who are considered “hood” are looked down upon even though most of the main trends we see all around us originate from them. If you are looking for something real, give City Girls a listen. Their debut album Period showcases their authenticity and energy.
