Dove and Cartoon Network choose the star characters from Steven Universe to educate youth about body confidence and self-esteem.
The eBook is the start of a movement created by Rebecca Sugar and Sigrun Danielsdottir. You can customize the eBook, and make it your own story by typing your name and choosing your gender, and the best part is you can choose more than one.
The book is far from uninformative. It incorporates useful scientific information about human growth and body image provided by Dr. Helena Lewis-Smith and Professor Philippa Diedrichs from the Centre of Appearance Research at the University of West England.
The book also introduces the Crystal Gems, the protagonists of the cartoon, for readers who are unfamiliar. The story likens us to the heroic Crystal Gems, reminding us that we are all precious in our own ways. It reminds us that all people are equal and should be respected despite our differences.
