Sydney Nycole is a Diva in the Making
Since being discovered at age 16 by Jamie Foxx’s label, Sydney Nycole has been non-stop.
The 27-year-old California native has spent the last decade honing her craft as a singer/songwriter, having opened up for A-list acts like Robin Thicke, En Vogue and Faith Evans. Her latest single, “Science of Love,” is currently featured in BET’s movie Live, Love, Soul, which will join her single “I Just Might” on the film’s soundtrack. Recently, Sydney has played for the Black Caucus and is set to perform at Berkeley’s annual Juneteenth celebration. She’ll also be recording the new theme song for the hit Emmy-Award winning show GIVE.
With a brand new album slated for a spring release, and a fierce determination, Sydney is all set to catapult straight to the top.
GLITTER: How would you describe your sound?
SYDNEY: I’m soulful but pop.
GLITTER: You started out professionally at age 16 as songwriter, at what point did you decide that you wanted to be on stage?
SYDNEY: At 18 I was in the studio recording a demo and one of the reps from the label asked why not do everything and I looked at my mom and she looked at me and we were like, “Yeah, why not,” so I put a band together and started recording my records while studying music theory.
GLITTER: You have opened for so many incredible artists. Who would be your dream artist to collaborate with?
SYDNEY: Definitely Babyface. He’s been in the game for so long and he does it so gracefully. I really look up to him.
GLITTER: How do you unwind and practice self love?
SYDNEY: Spending time with my family keeps me grounded but I also like to keep a daily journal to be able to see how I progress or digress. It really gives me the opportunity for self-reflection.
GLITTER: What is the vibe of your upcoming album?
SYDNEY: This whole album is a love story. All ages and all people, women and men, will connect with it because everyone has had a love story.
GLITTER: What does it mean to perform at the Black Caucus and Juneteenth?
SYDNEY: This is so important. I am very honored for the opportunity to get to show my audience the pride that I have for my heritage.
GLITTER: What is your go-to song?
SYDNEY: It’s gonna be either a Rihanna song or Beyoncé, for sure. Maybe, “Upgrade You” by Beyoncé.
GLITTER: What inspires you as a writer?
SYDNEY: I’m writing the story of my life, so basically I get inspiration from everywhere and anything. I make everything into a song. I even have a song for washing dishes!
GLITTER: If you could describe yourself in 3 words what would they be?
SYDNEY: Whimsical. Goofy. Passionate.
