Netflix Is Releasing ‘The Dark Crystal’ Prequel

For those of you who are lucky enough to remember the cult classic Jim Henson movie, The Dark Crystal—and for those of you who perhaps never had the life-changing opportunity to see it—the story is being revived.

That is right: the evil Skeksis and heroic Gelflings are coming back to the TV screen to play out what happened before the story of Jen and the magical shard. The puppetry and cinematography are staying visually true to the original science fiction/fantasy classic, despite the fact that the series comes 37 years after the movie was released. Considering how technology has progressed over the decades, one could say that the prequel is improving the original.

Only recently letting on that a prequel was on its way, Netflix just released the official teaser to The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance series. The series will have ten episodes, is being produced by The Jim Henson Company, and comes out on August 30, 2019.
