Robert Downey Jr. to Star in ‘Dolittle’

(ABC/Randy Holmes)

It’s a weird but wonderful, animal filled world as the rebooted Dolittle, played by Robert Downey Jr., returns to the big screen.

Universal Pictures

In Dolittle, Robert Downey Jr. plays Doctor Dolittle, a man who can converse with animals. It’s based on High Lofting’s book, The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle. The trailer opens with majestic scenery while a slowed-down version of a popular song “What a Wonderful World” plays in the background. This is a film of great majesty, to watch it will leave the audience struck by the glory of nature.

The moral of Dolittle seems to be “Just because you can, it doesn’t mean you should,” as Downey’s character manages to talk himself in trouble numerous times including with a tiger who is determined to eat him. The star-studded cast includes Robert Downey Jr. alongside Antonio Banderas and Michael Sheen in live-action roles. Even the voices behind the animal cast give us goosebumps as they include Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, John Cena, Kumail Nanjiani, Octavia Spencer, Tom Holland, Craig Robinson, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, and Marion Cotillard.

The film was originally going to be released on May 24, 2019, by Universal Pictures but was moved to avoid competition with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It was later pushed back to January 17, 2020. With Downey’s wonderful film history now comes the next stage, in which he does a bizarre Welsh accent and we can’t wait to experience it. Check out the trailer below.
