Chloe X Halle performed at the GLAAD Media Awards on July 30 and even though the event didn’t follow its normal format, they set the bar high for upcoming award shows.

The GLAAD Media Awards honor performers and media moguls who’ve helped uplift the LBTQ+ community in the entertainment industry. While the show was held virtually this year, it still had plenty of glam and an ever meaningful cause to share with the audience.

The Beyoncé proteges provided us with a dazzling ’90s themed rendition of their hit “Do It.” The video was set against a backdrop of warm lighting as it introduced Chloe, who commanded the scene with Mel B inspired hair and matching animal print before turning to Halle, debuting a chic Posh spice bob.

The next treat hinted to those eagle-eyed viewers who noted the performance took place at The Chapel at The Abbey, a much-loved venue for LGBTQ+ acts in Hollywood. As the camera panned to the bar, it revealed a trio of RuPaul alumni: Miss Vanjie (Sporty Spice), Naomi Smalls (Ginger Spice) and Mayhem Miller (Baby Spice) who looked the part in their respective Spice outfits.

Needless to say, it was a Drag reinvention that sent social media into a flurry, even getting a sea of approval from the original band themselves. Among those who appeared alongside Chloe X Halle, were Shea Diamond, Benn Platt and Demi Lovato, to name a few. Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade also made a guest appearance towards the end of the night, offering words of thanks to their daughter Zaya for, “leading us in our journey” as LGBTQ+ allies.

All of the performances from the night were a much-needed injection of color in these dull times and are well worth a watch. You can watch the Drag makeover of “Do It,” in full, via the Instagram post above.
